Attorneys are considered 'Officers of the Court'. If their very status is illegal, then how can they rightfully become Officers of the Court? This is just another red herring argument. No illegal immigrant can attend law school. Getting into law school itself requires a background check. Should they get past that requirement, they can get a student visa just as soon as they are admitted.

Illegal immigrant applies to be admitted to the Florida Bar!
by moshe inlaw school admits an admitted illegal and when he graduates the fl bar thinks he should just go away quietly?
it's absurd to let illegal immigrant children enroll in first grade and then years later after they graduate from high school or college expect them to return to their foreign place of birth as adults.. "the florida board of bar examiners, which grants membership to the bar, has asked the state supreme court to determine whether it can accept someone who is not in the country legally.
the supreme court flagged the case as "high profile" last week.. "no one who has shown this guy's level of contempt for american law should be practicing law," said william gheen, president of americans for legal immigration, a political action committee that opposes amnesty for undocumented immigrants.. tom fitton, president of the conservative watchdog group judicial watch, agreed.. "he can't practice as a lawyer," fitton said.

Knorr was big on masturbation. In his "new boy" musings, he'd say something to the effect of "you only touch it to pee!" With Franz, it's worth mentioning that at the time of his death, he was suffering from severe dementia. Perhaps in early symptoms of this condition, he said things out loud that he probably shouldn't have said. By the mid 80s he was more or less in forced retirement, and in the last years of his life he didn't even live at Bethel. Franz was a lot of things, but gay doesn't seem to be one of them.

Nancy Yuen had four children by 1953. Her husband fled to Hong Kong in 1953 with the children. Yuen stayed for three more years and got arrested for the final time in 1956. She was released in 1968 and applied for the exit visa again, but was thrown into jail again for preaching in 1970. They finally tired of her in 1979, and deported her immediately to Hong Kong.

What always bothered me about the Nancy Yuen case was that she had her husband and little children waiting for her in Hong Kong. The Chinese government actually granted her an exit visa, which they very seldom did at that time. What was wrong with taking the exit visa, joining your family in HK, and preaching there? She had to have known that the Chinese government was losing patience with her and she was going in if she went door to door again. They were actually pretty lenient on her, and gave her several chances to stop. If you want to make a martyr out of your own life, then so be it. People with children depending on them should take the other way out. As it turned out, she served 20 or so years, her kids grew up without a mother, and the WTS used Nancy Yuen and her suffering as a way to guilt-trip everyone else into pioneering. What did her sojourn in China actually accomplish? Not a whole lot. The government loosened restrictions on Witnesses, but this was due to the gradual opening up of the Chinese market and globalization. The few thousand there are mostly settled in Hong Kong - exactly the place Nancy Yuen refused to go.

No, I never served at Bethel. My uncle was a District convention overseer, and so I met him once at Bethel and twice at dinner (one of which was in my own home). I also had dinner with Karl Klein.
As for all of these 'gay' rumors, I think they are unfair unless someone actually comes up with some proof. I have to guess it is said in response to Franz being a life-long bachelor, but my personal take on the guy is that he had few interests outside the Witnesses. Marriage was implicitly banned for Bethelites from shortly after the time Franz joined (1914) to when Knorr married in 1953. Fred Franz was already into his 60s when the marriage ban was lifted, so it's no surprise he stayed single.

I'm just giving my personal opinion since I actually met the man and more importantly, had relatives who knew him on a personal level. It's not a stretch to say that he was intelligent. He was college educated, spoke several languages, and was on the fast track to grad studies. I did not say that he spoke Hebrew fluently. He studied it, and had some knowledge of it. At the time, not many people could speak Hebrew since it was purely a liturgical language and had not yet been completety revived by the State of Israel. I certainly wouldn't say that Franz had that level of knowledge. As for the whole Rhodes issue, it is true that he was in the beginning stages of applying for it, meaning that he stood a chance to get it. But we'll never know, since he dropped out of college and went to Bethel. If Franz ever had a protege, it would be Lloyd Barry. Lloyd had a Masters degree and was one of the few GB members to have graduated from college (I believe Albert Schroeder was the only other one). He also spoke fluent Japanese. Franz preferred Barry over Henschel as his successor, but was voted down.

Franz was an intelligent man. I'd say he was more of a linguist than a biblical scholar. He spoke English, French, Spanish, German, and Portuguese fluently. He studied biblical Greek in college and was self-taught in Hebrew. People knew this about him and he had a kind of aura around him because of this. Relative to Witness standards, this was extremely remarkable. I was too young to hear about his reaction to 1975, but in private conversation with my uncle who was the Convention Overseer, Franz felt that everyone was trapping him with the specific date of 1975 when all along he pointedly remarked that he had no idea as to when Eve was created, and that could mean a few years gap. It was all about Eve, and in his mind, a 36 year gap between Adam's creation in 1975 and hers was quite possible.

For second degree, they have to prove Zimmerman had no regard for human life. That's a steep burden and you have to wonder what the SP was thinking. We're getting into Charles Manson territory here. Manslaughter would have been a much simpler charge. I've already heard legal analysts say that the state has a steep hill to climb. It's so high that it's quite possible the judge will toss it out.

They've already built one hotel in Patterson, and they'll probably build more when everything moves up there. That way they can get some tourist dollars from the faithful and have more of a control over the itinerary. The highlight of most Bethel tours when I was in was seeing the city. No such distractions in upstate NY.

Fred Franz always struck me as a man in an ivory tower who knew little about what was going on around him. In person he was pleasant, even decent in a way. Knorr was the one you didn't want to end up in an elevator with, not Franz. Who really bothered me was Karl Klein. That man had serious issues of envy and jealousy. He loved nothing more than to take credit for something that was going on at Bethel. Franz was talkative and jovial at our dinner table. Klein made the entire evening tense and people were afraid to say anything.
